The Retail Companies Association (ACORT) was established at the initiative of several retail chains of Russia in 2001 to represent the interests of its members and coordinate their activities.
The Association actively interacts with the key federal ministries and agencies, the State Duma of the Russian Federation, public associations, unions and other associations on a wide range of issues affecting the interests of retail trade.
For the years of its existence, the Association has launched and implemented a considerable number of initiatives aimed at civilized development of the Russian retail industry, acted as the organizer of numerous exhibitions, forums and festivals.
Signing in December 2012 of a «Code of good practice of relations between the retail chains and suppliers of consumer goods» by seven leading industry unions and associations, participants of the consumer market (ACORT, «RusBrand», «Soyuzmoloko», «Rusprodsoyuz», National Meat Association, Fish Union, Association of producers and consumers of fat-and-oil products), Committee on Consumer market of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation and the Consumers union of the Russian Federation became an important step. The signing ceremony was attended by 1st Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov.
In different years, industry leaders were among the top managers of the Association. Five years ACORT Presidium was headed by Lev Khasis, who is currently the First Deputy Chairman of the Board of Sberbank of Russia. In 2011 he was replaced by Iliya Yakubson, the President of Dixy Group of Companies, and since June, 2015 the ACORT Presidium is headed by Ilya Lomakin - Rumyantsev.
ACORT is among the members of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, RSPP (the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs), the Union of Participants of the Consumer Market, «Support of Russia», the member of the Association of participants of consumer market «Intersectoral Expert Council» (the Council of the consumer market).
Currently Association unites 29 largest retail companies representing 25% of the retail market of Russia:
